@nickpmclaren Forget spending money on the trains and invest in scaling up local businesses so folks don’t have to commute to sydney at all. More of their money stays local, their commute time to community groups and family, and just a better lifestyle in general.
Love the vulnerability and crying on telly, we don’t see enough of that from fellas. Thinking of the man described by Grayson Perry in The Descent of Man - compassionate and strong. twitter.com/MichelleObama/…

@drnic That’s fair. Benefit of the doubt though - they comply with the law in each jurisdiction they operate in.
Scathing. Love it. Still, there is the major point that keeps coming up in the AFR about tax and revenue. International transfer pricing allows companies to license/sell goods and services between subsidiaries. Offshore the profit. Netflix isn’t wrong, laws allow the practice.

apple.news/AJmo748bHRfugt… Strikes me as odd that but now pay later would stay unregulated in Australia. Another example of power and wealth dictating legislation to support themselves at the expense of customers? Thinking The System by Robert Reich.
I recently finished reading The System by @RBReich - I strongly recommend the read. It’s about wealth and power and how oligarchs use theirs to distort markets and democracy. This tweet (ad) is a pretty good example of wealth and power being leveraged: twitter.com/googledownunde…

@evolvable In early years post IPO you will typically see a dip in the price after the earnings call when the trading window opens for tech companies with a large % of employee shares on issue. They have a 30 day window (typically) to trade lest they foul insider trading provisions.

Thanks for the share @mrpatto. Reflecting on the US it strikes me that bright young souls from other countries are less likely to seek to start businesses there in future, seeking more stable bases of operation. How does this play out over the next two decades? twitter.com/mrpatto/status…

@evolvable And the conversation intertwines with governments selling income producing assets (think a power station in NSW for $1, for example). I’m not a fan of asset recycling as it pulls forward cash flow when we could allocate the cash flow, with discipline, to health/education/etc.
afr.com/policy/economy… The comments about business loans to fuel growth bother me (Lowe, RBA) as banks want personal directors guarantees which breaks the limited liability nature of the Pty Ltd.

@thepmo I would love to see a costing on this. We have, as Australians, spent around $60bn on NBN this far as I understand it. How far towards this goal could we get with, for example, $60bn?
I want @thepmo to commit Australia to: - be powered by 100% renewable energy (commercial and resi, not industrial) by 2030 - phase out general rego for petrol cars and light vehicles by 2035 - implement tier 3 carbon tax (tax on exported carbon, for example coal to China) by 2022
